A nationwide business association representing the majority ofphytosanitary product manufacturers. Its member companies research, develop andcreate products used on issues of plant health to combat the harmful organismsthat affect plants. The goals of the association are: to promote an objectiveregulatory environment based on scientific criteria; to contribute towardscompetitive and sustainable agriculture; and to raise public awareness on thebenefits, value and safety of using phytosanitary products.
Depending on the problems to be resolved, the products can be dividedinto four large product families: herbicides (35%); fungicides (25%);insecticides (30%); and phytoregulators and others (10%).
A third of all phytosanitary products existing in Europein 1993 are registered. New products are effective at lower doses, respectfulof the environment and auxiliary, natural or introduced fauna, safe for theuser and the food produced with them come with the highest guarantees ofquality and health.
The member companies of AEPLA invest a large part of their resourcesinto finding scientific solutions to complying with the ever stricter demandsfrom our society in terms of the environment and public health. Currentdevelopment for a new molecule takes more than 9 years of research and costs inexcess of 200 million euros.
The member companies of AEPLA recorded a turnover in 2009 of 600 millioneuros. They employ 1,500 professionals in Spainand 30,000 inEurope.
AEPLA has 25 member companies, accounting for 74% of the entire sectorin Spain.
